Dearest Friends,
We live in difficult times when needs are great. There is always some
area where each one of us can make a difference.
I discovered several years ago how great the homeless population is
here in America. I know one wouldn’t think it would be that way here
in this great land, but there are over 15 million homeless and at risk
children in this country.
I have spent much of my ministry working with the homeless population
and especially with our youth so that they might have an opportunity
to heal earlier than I did.
Two years ago, ‘Take a Stand Ministries,’ began a new project. This is
very simply called the “Christmas Shoebox Project.”
All year long I gather goods; shoes, socks, hats, gloves, toys,
hygiene products, Quilts and infant needs. This project covers infants
through teens, 0-18. I gather out of my own pocket and through the
generosity of others like you from around the country. I speak to
church congregations and individuals as I travel, asking for their
help. They have the following options; they may donate funds and we
will buy the goods and put the boxes together, or they can put
together boxes and ship them to us by December 1st. We also take
donations to purchase food for Christmas dinners and for travel
expenses to help in delivering the shoe boxes.
Around September or October we begin assembling these goods into
shoeboxes, packed as full as we can get them. Then depending on how
many stops I have, I leave sometime at the beginning of December,
fully loaded and making stops at Homeless Shelters, Soup Kitchens,
Reservations in need, Women and Children’s Shelters and Street
outreach programs.
Generally I will do a Christmas concert at each stop and share Jesus,
whom the season is about and give out shoeboxes to every child that
shows up.
Last year we were even able to provide Christmas dinner at a couple of
our stops.
Here at ‘Take a Stand Ministries,’ we are always anxious to hear of
new places in need of the blessing of our shoeboxes.
If you would like to be part of this wonderful, ’Christmas Shoebox
Project’ please contact us.
It’s so easy and a great thing to get your own children or
grandchildren involved in. It touches so many children who would
otherwise not have Christmas. Your kindness and the word of God in
every box can change a life.
God richly bless you for participating with me in the ‘Christmas
Shoebox Project’
